I'm seeing more and more about solar power, why?
The age of cheap energy has passed. Prices have risen on average 10% a year since 2005, and you may have read recently that prices have risen sharply again. This trend is likely to continue.
The Government have strict 'green targets' to meet and have introduced the generous Feed-in Tariff scheme to encourage homeowners and organisations to switch to solar power. These Feed-in Tariffs are paid for by the raising of bills on electricity produced from fossil fuels. Therefore if you don't go for Solar then you'll be paying for the others that do.
Financial benefits & the feed-in tarrif scheme
What is the Feed-In Tariff Scheme?
The
feed-in tariff scheme (also known as FITs or the Clean Energy Cashback scheme) was introduced by the Government in April 2010. The tariff was put in place to encourage people to generate their own green, renewable energy.
Under the scheme electricity companies are obliged by law to pay you money for the electricity that is generated by your MCS PV Solar installation. View the current FIT rate. This rate is 'locked in’ for 20 years from the day your system is commissioned.
How much money will I be paid through the Feed In Tarrfic scheme?
The Feed-in Tariff scheme pays money for every unit of electricity generated, regardless of whether you use it or not. These payments are tax free and index linked for 20 years. Although it is not possible to be exact about the amount you can earn, our comprehensive quotation pack created using the market leading PV*Sol Expert software, is the most accurate available. The financial return is dependent on a number of factors including size of your system, the quality of the panels, shading issues, pitch and location, but as an example, the average system installed by Solar City pays for itself in approximately seven years.
Can I sell back any excess electricity generated?
Yes. If you generate more energy than you use, you can sell any excess energy back to the National Grid.
Solar sounds to good to be true, Is there a catch?
The simple answer is no, It's one of the best investments around plus it's one that can be made with a clear conscience. We recommend doing research of the government incentives to see just how good and ethical this investment is. The only issue that needs to be considered is can I afford the installation? Our answer would be, Can you afford not to?
The panels
How do PV Solar Panels work?
Simply put solar panels convert light into electricity that you can then use or sell back to the grid. A lot of people think solar panels operate best in heat, but in fact a cool bright day is better, which means that the UK is actually very good for solar power.
Which solar panels do you use?
We use the market leading software, PV*Sol Expert, to design systems which ensure the maximum output for you. We only select the highest quality solar panels that are fully accredited by the MCS scheme (essential if you wish to receive the Government's Feed in Tariff payments). We have many
satisfied customers who would be happy to discuss the quality of equipment that we use.
Installation
Do I need planning permission?
Solar systems do not need planning permission unless the property is listed or in a conservation area.
Will my roof be strong enough?
Most roofs are strong enough to take a solar installation. We will evaluate your roof and if there is any doubt, will consult a structural engineer to guarantee safety.
Do your prices include scaffolding?
Yes. Our price includes scaffolding by an accredited company.
How long will the installation take?
Installation can vary from one day upwards dependant on the size of the system. For a better time estimate,
